On Feb. 12, 2026, more than 40 people picketed outside the home of San Francisco Unified School District Superintendent Maria Su, calling for teacher raises and other demands. The protest was part of an ongoing educators strike that has seen increasing personal demonstrations directed at district leadership.
The action reflects growing frustration among educators and community groups over unresolved contract negotiations between the district and the United Educators of San Francisco. Protestors chanted outside Su’s Ingleside Terrace residence, with one sign reading, “DR. SU, EDUCATORS NEED A FAIR CONTRACT NOW!”
“We’re out here as a community bringing the fight to Maria Su’s door. Su gets to clock out at 5. This is our everyday struggle,” Juana Tello, a community organizer, said through a bullhorn. Winnie Porter, a retired Spanish teacher and librarian who worked in the school district for nearly 40 years, said protesting at Su’s home is justified: “She’s bringing it to our homes. No healthcare for our kids, our families. Wages that make us move to Oakland. Special education [educators] not being listened to.”
Superintendent Su was likely not present during the protest due to ongoing negotiations with union representatives at the War Memorial Opera House and Performing Arts Center. District representatives did not respond to requests for comment.
Earlier in the day, more than a thousand educators and supporters marched down Market Street toward City Hall. Nathalie Hrizi, vice president of United Educators of San Francisco, addressed protesters from a megaphone: “Dr. Maria Su needs to figure. It. Out, We know they have the money for fully funded health benefits. We know they have the money for a raise without taking it out of our contracts. If they don’t figure it out tonight, we will have stronger picket lines tomorrow.”
San Francisco Unified School District remains under state financial oversight and has cited budget constraints as limiting its ability to meet union demands without risking layoffs or school closures.
